May is Celiac Awareness Month

According to the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center, a staggering 3 million people in the United States have celiac disease; yet only 10% of them have been diagnosed.  Dr. Samuel Gee, a British physician and pediatrician published the first modern description of the clinical picture of celiac disease and is credited with being the first to identify the link between celiac disease and diet in 1888.

How can you make a difference this month? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Speak to and educate at least one person about celiac disease.
  • Donate food and personal care products to a gluten-free food pantry.
  • Attend a Celiac Awareness event such as baseball game, Expo (join us in Atlanta!), or charity walk/run.
  • Support our "free from" businesses.
  • Join a local meetup or online Celiac Support Group.
